New MDS Documentation Site

The Magenta Design System Documentation Site has officially replaced the previous Storybook-based documentation as the primary source of design system guidance. The new site provides a more structured and scalable platform for product teams to explore design guidelines, components, and patterns.

MDS Documentation Site

Key improvements

Improved information architecture

Documentation is now organized into clearer sections such as:

  • Foundations
  • Components
  • Patterns
  • UX Writing
  • Micro-interactions
  • Design Resources

Better developer experience

The new documentation site provides:

  • Clearer component usage guidance
  • Structured API references
  • Improved navigation and search

Unified design & technical documentation

Instead of separating knowledge across multiple platforms, the new site centralizes:

  • Design guidelines
  • Implementation references
  • Best practices

This helps teams onboard faster and implement components more consistently.

What happens to Storybook?

Storybook will continue to host the documentation and examples for MDS version 1.0, which remains available for teams currently using that version. The new MDS Documentation Site becomes the primary platform for all future documentation, updates, and releases, starting from MDS v2.0 and beyond.

This approach allows:

  • Existing product teams to continue referencing v1.0 documentation without disruption
  • New documentation and improvements to be built on a more scalable platform
  • A smoother transition path for teams planning to migrate to future MDS versions

Product teams using v1.0 can continue to rely on Storybook as the reference for that version, while new features and guidance will be published on the MDS Documentation Site.
